About the role

The Department of Construction Management at Nelson Mandela University seeks a senior academic leader to drive teaching, research supervision and scholarly advancement in Construction Management. The role aims to reinforce the university’s position as a continental leader in the discipline while fostering strong industry‑academic collaborations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead research and scholarship by publishing in reputable journals, presenting at conferences and securing external research funding.
• Supervise Honours, Masters and Doctoral candidates, guiding methodological development and theory building in construction business management.
• Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses, manage curriculum modules and contribute to programme development for BSc, BSc (Honours) and MSc/PhD pathways.
• Engage with industry partners, local communities and governmental bodies to promote best practices, health and safety standards, and sustainable construction policies.
• Participate in departmental administration, curriculum design and academic governance.

Required profile

• Established record of scholarly publications and successful research grant acquisition.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise graduate research and mentor early‑career scholars.
• Strong leadership, interpersonal and networking skills within academic and construction sectors.
• Knowledge of curriculum development, higher‑education funding landscapes and research proposal processes.
