Professor / Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer – Social Work

About the role

Stellenbosch University’s Department of Social Work is seeking qualified candidates for senior academic positions – Professor, Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer – to strengthen its teaching, research and community impact activities on the Stellenbosch Campus.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver undergraduate teaching in the theoretical social work programme.
• Coordinate and develop programme curricula.
• Supervise postgraduate (MSc and PhD) research projects.
• Conduct independent research and publish in accredited journals (minimum outputs: Professor 25, Associate Professor 17, Senior Lecturer 7).
• Participate in departmental and university social impact initiatives.
• Perform administrative duties related to teaching and research.

Required profile

• PhD in Social Work (or equivalent) and registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions.
• Demonstrated experience supervising postgraduate students at MSc and PhD level.
• Evidence of accredited research publications and conference presentations as per rank requirements.
• Professional proficiency in English and willingness to work in a multilingual environment.
• Relevant professional practice experience in social work.

Required skills

• Knowledge of the BSW Standards of the Social Work Curriculum in South Africa as stipulated by the CHE.
• Experience supervising undergraduate practice‑education programmes.
• Familiarity with online teaching and learning platforms.
• Strong independent research capability.
• Leadership, teamwork and excellent presentation skills.
