Professor / Associate Professor – Faculty of Law

About the role

The Faculty of Law is seeking qualified candidates for the positions of Professor or Associate Professor. Successful applicants will provide academic leadership in teaching, research, community engagement and institutional governance.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including Master’s and PhD programmes.
• Conduct and publish original research, contributing to the faculty’s national and international reputation.
• Supervise Master’s and PhD candidates and mentor junior staff, including candidate attorneys.
• Engage with the community and professional bodies to promote the faculty’s impact.
• Participate in departmental, faculty and university governance, taking on administrative and leadership duties as required.

Required profile

• PhD in Law and an LLB obtained from a South African university.
• For Professor: minimum 10 years of relevant experience; for Associate Professor: 7‑10 years.
• Extensive teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, preferably in Public Law (Professor) or Procedural Law (Associate Professor).
• Demonstrated record of research supervision and a national or emerging international profile in the discipline.
• Evidence of training, mentoring and supervising junior staff or candidate attorneys.
