Professional Planner

About the role

The Professional Planner role supports the development and implementation of strategic and spatial planning frameworks for the municipality. You will work on the Integrated Development Plan, Spatial Development Framework, Local Area Plans and the Land Use Management System, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and policies.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement, monitor and review the Integrated Development Plan, Spatial Development Framework and Local Area Plans.
• Process, assess and resolve development applications, including complex and major impact cases.
• Manage land use enforcement interventions and conduct community and advocacy planning.
• Undertake research, policy formulation and manage planning‑related projects.
• Provide technical advice and guidelines to stakeholders across government and civil society.
• Maintain information systems and collate statistical data on planning processes.

Required profile

• Degree (NQF Level 7) in Town and Regional Planning (Professional Planner) or Post‑graduate Degree (NQF Level 8) for Senior level.
• Registered Professional Planner with the South African Council for Town and Regional Planners (SACPLAN).
• Valid motor vehicle driving licence and ability to undertake field work.
• Minimum 4 years (Professional) or 5 years (Senior) relevant experience.
• Computer literacy and ability to use planning information systems.
