Production Equipment Maintenance Mechanic

About the role

Government Printing Works is hiring a full-time artisan for equipment maintenance in its Pretoria site. The role covers keeping all mechanical equipment running efficiently, carrying out repairs, managing work orders and ensuring safety, health, environment and quality standards are met.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out efficient maintenance and repair of all equipment at GPW sites, following scheduled maintenance and lead times as instructed.
• Complete maintenance work orders to keep an accurate record of equipment maintenance history.
• Escalate and expedite maintenance that delays production or poses risks to health, safety and the environment.
• Assist with root cause analysis of equipment breakdowns and report findings.
• Keep the maintenance schedule communicated to maintenance, production, outside services, stores and engineering, and assist machine agents or OEMs when needed.
• Inspect mechanical equipment on agreed timelines and report signs of damage to the supervisor.
• Perform and monitor quality assurance so that maintenance and repair comply with GPW and other authority standards, and review factors affecting quality.
• Monitor progress against the plan and provide inputs for maintenance and repair reports.
• Collect work orders from the supervisor each morning, complete them and report back.
• Submit written and verbal reports, manage leave, handle time and attendance, and attend meetings, training and workshops.
• Follow health and safety rules, wear PPE properly, carry out regular risk assessments and follow GPW's safety, health and environmental policies.
