Principal ESIA Lead – Planning & Assessment Consultant

About the role

The International ESIA Lead will drive the strategic development and expansion of environmental and social impact assessment services across Africa, focusing on renewables, energy, infrastructure and mining sectors. The role involves securing new opportunities that meet international lender requirements, forging strategic partnerships, and positioning SLR as a trusted provider of high‑quality ESIA and sustainability advisory services.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and secure new business aligned with International Finance Corporation, World Bank and Equator Principles lender standards.
• Serve as Project Director on key assignments, overseeing multidisciplinary teams through the full ESIA lifecycle from planning to final reporting.
• Integrate international best practices into project delivery and ensure rigorous quality assurance and risk management.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships through clear communication and technical excellence.

Required profile

• Over 15 years of ESIA experience in South Africa and the broader African region.
• B.Sc. (Hons) or Master’s degree in environmental or natural sciences or a related field.
• Deep knowledge of ESIA processes to meet lender standards and strong project‑management expertise.
• Proven ability to develop client relationships, lead large multidisciplinary projects and travel across African countries.
• Valid driver’s licence.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent written and spoken English with strong report‑writing capabilities.
• Strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines, manage budgets and multitask in a fast‑paced environment.
