Platform Engineer (Mid-level Infrastructure & Networking)

About the role

A well‑established data‑driven organisation is looking for a mid‑level Platform Engineer to own and evolve its core on‑premise infrastructure. You will work hands‑on with Linux servers, networking, storage, virtualization and emerging container orchestration platforms, ensuring performance, reliability and scalability.

Key responsibilities

• Manage, maintain and optimise on‑premise and bare‑metal infrastructure environments.
• Support and troubleshoot networking, storage, virtualization and systems infrastructure.
• Contribute to the evolution of Kubernetes and other container orchestration capabilities.
• Develop and maintain automation, monitoring, observability and operational tooling.
• Diagnose complex infrastructure, performance and network‑related issues.
• Collaborate with engineering and data teams to improve platform reliability and scalability.
• Take ownership of initiatives from concept through production deployment.
• Continuously improve operational processes, system resilience and security practices.

Required profile

• Industry‑related degree or diploma, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3–5 years of experience in infrastructure, systems administration or platform engineering.
• Strong problem‑solving ability and systems‑thinking mindset.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical challenges.

Required skills

• Strong Linux systems administration experience.
• Solid networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing and switching, DNS, firewalls, load balancing).
• Experience with bare‑metal and/or on‑premise infrastructure environments.
• Scripting and automation skills (Bash, Python or similar).
• Experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration platforms (desired).
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP) (desired).
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code and automation tooling (desired).
• Understanding of observability and monitoring stacks (metrics, logs, tracing) (desired).
