Platform and Engineering Manager

About the role

Pedros builds its digital products in-house, and the Platform and Engineering Manager is the technical owner of the hosting infrastructure, applications, deployment and associated risks. The role leads the software development team and stays hands-on, combining technical leadership with people responsibility. It suits a senior engineer taking their first step into management.

Key responsibilities

• Host Pedros applications and internal systems end to end across AWS, Azure and private hosting, covering deployment, availability, backup and recovery.
• Ensure each application is deployed correctly for its environment, and decide where workloads run based on cost, performance, security and data protection.
• Own container orchestration, environments and CI/CD pipelines, automate provisioning with infrastructure-as-code, and set the technical release standard.
• Act as first approver for changes to hosted systems, assess technical risk and cost impact, and keep change records for audit.
• Watch the cloud budget, forecast consumption, estimate costs of new deployments and apply cost controls such as tagging, alerts and right-sizing.
• Run monitoring, alerting and logging, plan capacity ahead of demand, lead incident response and run post-incident reviews.
• Maintain system criticality classifications, ensure backup and failover designs meet RPO/RTO targets, and run recovery tests.
• Implement security standards, manage vulnerability and patch remediation, and report control gaps.
• Manage hosting, cloud and tooling vendors day to day, including SLAs, escalations and value for money.
• Lead the software development team, set engineering standards, coach engineers and build a development path from junior to senior.

Required profile

• 7+ years in infrastructure, DevOps, software or security engineering, with recent hands-on ownership of production systems.
• Proven experience designing, building and running a production system end to end.
• Experience leading or mentoring engineers; formal line management is not required but the appetite and aptitude for it are.
• Ability to explain technical risk and cost to non-technical stakeholders.

Required skills

• AWS, Azure and private hosting environments, including choosing where workloads run.
• Containerised workloads and CI/CD pipelines in production.
• Secure SDLC: dependency, secrets and code scanning, vulnerability triage.
• Budgeting, forecasting consumption and controlling cloud spend.
• Backup, disaster recovery and business continuity, including RPO/RTO design and recovery tests.
• Vendor management, including SLAs, renewals and cost.
