Plant Engineer – Engineering & Processing Operations

About the role

The County Fair is seeking a Plant Engineer to support the Engineering Manager and processing operations. You will drive operational efficiencies, ensure safety compliance, and lead continuous improvement initiatives across the plant.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain safe operation of processing and utility systems in line with OHS legislation.
• Reduce downtime through proactive engineering and reliability strategies.
• Plan, cost, and execute capital projects on schedule and within budget.
• Manage daily utility performance – energy, coal, refrigeration, water.
• Improve equipment uptime and OEE metrics.
• Apply the 20 Keys improvement program to all controllable processes.
• Approve designs, calculations, and specifications while ensuring compliance with safety standards.
• Compile and control the annual maintenance budget.
• Coordinate with suppliers to source cost‑effective, high‑quality solutions.

Required profile

• Government Certificate of Competence (GCC) – mandatory.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent B‑Tech).
• Minimum 3 years of maintenance/engineering experience in poultry, FMCG, or food manufacturing environments.
• Strong problem‑solving ability, self‑motivation and attention to detail.
• Leadership and communication skills to influence stakeholders.

Required skills

• Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
• AutoCAD (advantage).
• Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and mitigation planning.
• Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) monitoring and improvement.
• Capital project planning and budgeting.
