Pit Manager

About the role

Isambane Mining is seeking a qualified Pit Manager (2.6.1 Appointee) to support the Site Manager in overseeing opencast mining operations. The role carries statutory responsibilities under the Mine Health and Safety Act and focuses on safe production, legal compliance and operational efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Fulfil statutory duties of a 2.6.1 Appointee in line with the Mine Health and Safety Act.
• Support daily opencast mining operations to meet production, safety and quality targets.
• Lead and supervise production teams, ensuring safe and efficient work.
• Conduct workplace examinations and declare work areas safe before work starts.
• Monitor production performance and provide accurate hourly, daily and shift reports.
• Coordinate equipment deployment, optimise machine utilisation and report breakdowns.
• Manage employee attendance, timesheets and maintain discipline.
• Identify operational risks and implement corrective actions for continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 12 qualification.
• At least 5 years’ experience in opencast mining with supervisory or management responsibilities.
• Valid Opencast Blasting Certificate and Competent A Certificate.
• Sound knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act and related regulations.
• Valid Code B driver’s licence and medical fitness as per mine requirements.
