Payroll Officer

About the role

Are you a payroll professional who thrives in a fast‑paced environment where accuracy matters? My client in the security industry is looking for an experienced and detail‑oriented Payroll Officer to join their finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the full payroll function, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing while maintaining compliance with all relevant legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Process monthly payroll for 1,500+ employees across multiple sites.
• Calculate salaries, overtime, bonuses, shift differentials, leave pay, UIF, PAYE, SDL and other statutory deductions.
• Ensure payroll is processed accurately and within strict deadlines.
• Prepare payroll reports and month‑end reconciliations.
• Maintain employee payroll records and related documentation.
• Handle payroll‑related queries and liaise closely with HR and finance.
• Ensure compliance with BCEA, SARS regulations, labour legislation and company policies.
• Process employee appointments, terminations, transfers, promotions and salary adjustments.

Required profile

• 4‑5 years’ experience in a payroll‑focused role.
• Strong understanding of BCEA, PAYE, UIF, SDL and payroll legislation.
• Experience processing payroll for a large employee base.
• Experience with VIP, Sage 300 People or Payspace systems.
• Fluent in Afrikaans and English.
• Deadline‑driven and highly organised.
• B.Com Accounting (or similar) – non‑negotiable.
