Payroll Assistant – On-site in Stellenbosch

About the role

Our client, a dynamic conglomerate operating across agriculture and logistics, is seeking a detail‑oriented Payroll Assistant to join the HR team in Stellenbosch. The role offers exposure to full‑function payroll processing and a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.

Key responsibilities

• Manage salary lists, schedules and payroll updates for new hires, resignations and ongoing changes.
• Assist with fortnightly/monthly payroll processing, reconciliations and reporting.
• Process annual increases, bonuses, commissions, staff loans and other compensation or deductions.
• Handle payroll queries, SARS EMP501 submissions, COIDA compliance and quarterly STATSSA reporting.
• Administer pension, provident fund and medical aid schedules.
• Support external audits with payroll deliverables.
• Maintain accurate employee records (paper and digital) and assist with onboarding and ad‑hoc HR functions.

Required profile

• HR Management, Industrial Psychology, Financial or Commercial degree (advantageous).
• 1–2 years experience in a payroll or similar administrative role.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Afrikaans.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage confidential information.
• Excellent communication, organisational and multitasking skills under pressure.

• SAGE VIP (or similar payroll system).
• PeopleSoft (or similar payroll system).
• PaySpace (or similar payroll system).
• Microsoft Excel – V‑lookups, pivot tables and graph creation.
