Operations Manager – Wastewater Treatment (Gauteng)

About the role

This is a site‑based position in Gauteng overseeing the day‑to‑day performance, safety and regulatory compliance of multiple wastewater treatment plants. You will be responsible for ensuring reliable plant operation, driving continuous improvement and developing a high‑performing operator team.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily operations of several plants to meet performance targets, uptime and design specifications.
• Monitor KPIs, effluent quality, chemical usage and process stability, reporting any deviations.
• Lead, mentor and evaluate a team of seven operators, delivering training and performance reviews.
• Ensure full compliance with national water quality and environmental regulations, coordinating sampling and laboratory testing.
• Provide hands‑on technical support for process optimisation, troubleshooting and corrective actions.
• Prepare and control the monthly chemicals and consumables budget, identifying cost‑saving opportunities.
• Enforce HSE protocols, conduct safety audits and risk assessments across all sites.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing daily operations of wastewater treatment facilities.
• Strong knowledge of water quality regulations and environmental standards.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop technical teams.
• Experience with budget preparation and cost control.
