Operational Paramedic

About the role

Mediclinic is seeking an Operational Paramedic to respond to emergency calls and deliver advanced medical care in accordance with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) scope of practice. The role involves ensuring the emergency response unit is ready at all times and representing the ER24 service positively to the public.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and maintain operational readiness for emergency calls.
• Provide patient care on scene, adhering to ALS protocols and HPCSA guidelines.
• Promote and preserve a positive public image for the ER24 service.
• Perform basic shift administration tasks, including documentation and reporting.

Required profile

• Essential education: Critical Care Assistant (CCA) or National Diploma/Diploma in Emergency Medical Care.
• Desired education: Completion of training linked to Clinical Practice Guidelines published by the HPCSA (to be completed during probation if not already held).
• Essential experience: Newly qualified ALS practitioner with operational EMS experience.
• Desired experience: At least 1 year of ALS operational experience.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Required skills

• Computer literacy, specifically Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of EMS environment, facilities, travel routes and demographic area.
• Familiarity with HPCSA guidelines, scope of practice and patient report forms.
• Application of best clinical practice.
