Operational Ambulance Emergency Assistant

About the role

The Operational Ambulance Emergency Assistant supports emergency calls and delivers intermediate medical care in accordance with the defined scope of practice. This position contributes to the readiness and public image of the ER24 service.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure operational readiness for emergency calls.
• Administer patient care within the scope of practice.
• Market and maintain a positive public image for ER24.

Required profile

• Ambulance Emergency Assistant Certificate or Higher Certificate in Emergency Medical Care (essential).
• Completion of training related to Clinical Practice Guidelines published by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (advantageous; required during probation if not already completed).
• Minimum 1 year of EMS experience (essential); 1 year of ILS experience (desired).
• Proficiency in written and verbal English.
• Familiarity with facilities, travel routes, and the demographic area served.
• Knowledge of HPCSA guidelines, scope of practice, and patient report forms.

Required skills

• Computer literacy with Microsoft Office.
• Application of best practice in emergency medical care.
• Understanding of HPCSA guidelines and scope of practice.
• Ability to complete patient report forms accurately.
