Onsite Support Specialist (OSS)

About the role

HITACHI ENERGY SOUTH AFRICA is looking for an Onsite Support Specialist (OSS Specialist) in Modderfontein, Gauteng. The role provides desk-side support to IT users, resolving technical issues that need in-person help and acting as the main link between users and the wider IT organisation. It is a full-time, onsite position.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and resolve IT issues and deliver computers and devices fully configured and ready to use.
• Give guidance and ad hoc training on common IT issues and self-service tools.
• Manage device and accessory inventory, keeping accurate records in the CMDB, and run regular hardware inventory audits and stock checks.
• Coordinate device transport and relocation through approved logistics providers, and manage warranty claims and repairs with OEM vendors.
• Maintain and troubleshoot IT equipment and software in meeting rooms and collaboration spaces, and support third-party technicians onsite.
• Inspect computer rooms, monitoring environmental conditions, cabling, equipment and infrastructure.
• Follow OSS governance, escalation procedures, SOPs and runbooks, and report risks affecting OSS service quality or continuity.
• Recommend equipment enhancements and process improvements, and support process engineering and maintenance of non-standard IT hardware, specialised systems and machine control technologies where applicable.

Required profile

• Degree, diploma or other formal qualification in Information Technology, or a recognised IT apprenticeship.
• 3-5 years of relevant IT support experience.
• Strong verbal and written communication in English and the local language, able to engage technical and non-technical audiences.
• Proactive, customer-focused, independent and able to prioritise tasks.
• Legal right to work in the location; employer-sponsored work visa support is not available.
