Municipal Accounting Specialist (GRAP)

About the role

Duramics is seeking a qualified Municipal Accounting Specialist to provide expert advisory, technical support, capacity‑building and implementation services on Generally Recognised Accounting Practice (GRAP) for a client in Polokwane on a 36‑month fixed‑term contract.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert advice on the interpretation and application of GRAP standards.
• Conduct GRAP compliance assessments, gap analyses and recommend corrective actions.
• Develop, review and update GRAP‑compliant accounting policies, procedures and technical guidance notes.
• Support the preparation and review of annual financial statements and related schedules.
• Offer technical support during internal and external audits, including audit findings responses.
• Evaluate financial controls and recommend improvements to governance, risk management and compliance processes.
• Deliver training, workshops and knowledge‑transfer sessions for finance officials.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree at NQF Level 7 in Accounting or related finance discipline; Honours degree advantageous.
• Minimum 10 years public‑sector accounting experience, including at least 7 years in management or GRAP advisory roles.
• Registered with a recognised professional accounting body (e.g., CA(SA), ACCA, PA(SA)).
• Proven experience in preparing/reviewing annual financial statements, audit support and audit action‑plan management.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of GRAP standards.
• Familiarity with MFMA, PFMA and National Treasury regulations.
• Audit support and audit action‑plan development.
• Financial reporting and control evaluation.

What we offer

• Remuneration ranging from R550 to R680 per hour, based on experience and current earnings.
