Mining Engineering Internship – 18‑Month Programme

About the role

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) offers an 18‑month Mining Engineering Internship within its Mandela Mining Precinct in Johannesburg. The programme is designed for recent graduates to gain hands‑on experience in research, development and implementation of mining technologies under the mentorship of senior engineers and researchers.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct literature reviews of local and international mining research.
• Support opportunity pursuit and project execution activities.
• Perform time‑and‑motion studies and collect data on mining engineering technologies at various mine sites.
• Engage with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) regarding relevant technologies.
• Prepare technical reports and present findings to project leads.
• Carry out general administrative tasks and provide insights for operational improvements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related Science/Engineering field (post‑graduate qualification is a plus).
• Exposure to metalliferous or mechanised mining environments is advantageous.
• Self‑motivated team player with strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Clear criminal record.
