Millwright – Electrical & Mechanical Maintenance

About the role

Weir Minerals is seeking a skilled Millwright to maintain and repair electrical (light and heavy current) and mechanical equipment across its Isando site, including the foundry, machine shop, and rubber plant. The role focuses on ensuring plant reliability, safety, and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Demonstrate 100% commitment to zero‑harm safety behaviours.
• Perform repairs and routine maintenance on all plant machinery.
• Respond promptly to breakdowns and assist other artisans with complex fault finding.
• Execute scheduled preventive maintenance and daily inspections as per the maintenance plan.
• Program basic PLCs and automate equipment to improve efficiency.
• Complete job cards in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
• Work occasional shifts, overtime, and standby duties as required.
• Design and implement mechanical and electrical changes in accordance with SANS 10142 and relevant standards.
• Set up new maintenance schedules for equipment and interpret engineering drawings.
• Collaborate with foremen, planners, production staff, and mentor apprentices.

Required skills

• Electrical maintenance (light and heavy current).
• Mechanical repair and maintenance.
• Basic PLC programming and industrial automation.
• Interpretation of engineering and machine drawings.
• Knowledge of SANS 10142 electrical standards.
• Use of a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
