Mid-Term Review Consultant for GEF7 Sustainable Land Management in South Africa

About the role

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is seeking a qualified consultant to conduct an independent mid‑term review of the GEF‑7 funded project “Mainstreaming Sustainable Land Management (SLM) for Large‑scale Impact in the Grazing Lands of Limpopo and Northern Cape Provinces, South Africa.” The review will assess progress at the midpoint of implementation and provide recommendations for the remaining project period.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse project documentation, monitoring data and stakeholder inputs.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of SLM interventions against GEF‑7 objectives.
• Identify gaps, risks and opportunities for scaling up impact.
• Prepare a comprehensive mid‑term review report with actionable recommendations.
• Present findings to IUCN, the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, and other project partners.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in environmental science, natural resources management, or a related field.
• Proven experience conducting independent evaluations of large‑scale land management or climate‑related projects.
• Familiarity with GEF processes and sustainable land management practices in Southern Africa.
• Strong analytical and report‑writing skills.
