Medical Monitor – Neonatology (Phase I Clinical Trial)

About the role

Upsilon Global is supporting a CRO in need of an experienced Medical Monitor to provide medical oversight for a First‑in‑Human, Phase I neonatal trial evaluating a treatment for Respiratory Distress Syndrome in preterm infants. The role is primarily remote, with occasional on‑site visits to three Cape Town hospital sites.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall medical oversight of the study and participating sites.
• Review serious adverse events (SAEs) and conduct safety assessments.
• Offer ongoing medical support to investigators and study teams.
• Participate in study‑related meetings, safety discussions, and pre‑study briefings.
• Oversee medical coding activities and review key study documents such as the Protocol and Investigator’s Brochure.

Required profile

• Medical Doctor (MD/MBChB) qualification with active HPCSA registration.
• Proven experience in medical monitoring within clinical trials.
• Strong background in safety review and pharmacovigilance.
• Experience in neonatal clinical research, preferably NICU‑based studies.
• Previous involvement in First‑in‑Human or Phase I studies is advantageous.
