Mechanical Engineer Technologist

About the role

Amatola Water is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Technologist to join its Head Office Infrastructure Planning & Development team in East London. The role focuses on asset planning, condition assessment and lifecycle optimisation of mechanical plant and equipment within water and wastewater treatment facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct asset condition assessments, reliability reviews, root‑cause analysis and remaining useful life evaluations for mechanical assets.
• Prepare, review and approve technical specifications, design criteria, drawings, equipment schedules and bill of quantities for mechanical works.
• Provide specialist mechanical support to operations, maintenance and project teams, including fault investigations and shutdown planning.
• Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation, environmental regulations and water sector standards.
• Manage allocated OPEX and minor capital projects from initiation through commissioning and benefit realisation.

Required profile

• BEng/BSc Eng/BTech or Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr Tech Eng).
• Minimum 5 years post‑qualification experience in mechanical engineering, preferably within water, wastewater or related industrial process environments.
• Experience in condition assessment, design review, specification development, project implementation and commissioning support.
