Mechanical Engineer – Manufacturing & Supervision

About the role

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join a well‑established manufacturing company in Germiston, supporting the Johannesburg workshop. The role combines hands‑on mechanical work with team leadership, ensuring equipment reliability and safety on the shop floor.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of artisans, technicians and mechanics, coordinating daily tasks and training.
• Perform hands‑on troubleshooting of complex mechanical failures, assemble prototypes and test equipment.
• Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance programmes to minimise downtime.
• Enforce occupational health and safety (OHS) standards and quality control procedures.
• Manage spare‑parts inventory, order supplies and optimise workshop layout for efficient workflow.
• Identify production bottlenecks and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 2–3 years of experience working on a workshop floor in a manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated supervisory or team‑lead experience.

Required skills

• Mechanical maintenance (preventive and corrective).
• Technical troubleshooting and prototype assembly.
• OHS compliance and quality control.
