Mechanical Engineer – HVAC Specialist

About the role

We are strengthening our Mechanical offering by appointing a Mechanical Engineer. The ideal candidate will hold a B.Eng., B.Sc. Eng., or B.Tech. Eng. (Mechanical) degree and have 3+ years of experience in the Building Services Consulting sector. The role focuses primarily on HVAC, with additional advantage given to experience in medical gases, mechanical utilities, wet services, fuel system design, vertical transportation and fire engineering.

Key responsibilities

• Lead HVAC design projects from inception to closeout, performing heat‑load and ventilation calculations in line with local and international standards.
• Utilise digital tools and BIM platforms (AutoCAD, Revit, Autodesk Forma, ACC) to produce accurate models and maintain high‑quality digital information.
• Develop tender documentation, manage the tender process and prepare Bills of Quantities.
• Provide site supervision, QA/QC checks and troubleshoot issues on existing installations.
• Build and maintain client relationships, understand client needs and deliver tailored solutions.
• Apply critical thinking and problem‑solving techniques to resolve complex engineering challenges.

Required profile

• B.Eng., B.Sc. Eng. or B.Tech. Eng. in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering.
• Minimum 3 years post‑graduation experience in building services, specifically HVAC design and construction monitoring.
• Experience in sectors such as data centres, clean rooms, advanced manufacturing or healthcare facilities.
• Basic proficiency with Revit and familiarity with Autodesk Construction Cloud or Forma.
• Eligibility or progress toward registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer or Professional Technologist.
• Valid Code B driver’s licence (own car preferred) and willingness to travel.

Required skills

• HVAC design software: HAP, Loadest, IES.
• BIM tools: AutoCAD, Revit, Autodesk Forma, Navisworks.
• Digital engineering platforms: Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Autodesk Forma.
• Heat‑load, ventilation and psychrometric calculations.
• Knowledge of South African National Standards (SANS), British Standards and ASHRAE.
• Thermodynamic and pipe‑network design principles.
