Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team in Johannesburg. The role focuses on designing high‑pressure valves, hydraulic power packs and mechanised industrial equipment for heavy‑industry applications, taking ownership of the product from concept through to field support.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop high‑pressure valves, hydraulic power packs and mechanised industrial equipment.
• Manage full product lifecycle: conceptual design, detailed engineering, manufacturing support, testing and field trials.
• Conduct site visits, including underground operations, to support development and resolve technical issues.
• Provide technical support to production, procurement, suppliers and sales teams.
• Participate in design reviews and cross‑functional technical discussions.
• Oversee prototype development, testing and validation.
• Review, check and approve engineering drawings and bills of materials.
• Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, technical reports and design records.

Required profile

• BEng Mechanical Engineering (MEng advantageous).
• Extensive experience in mechanical design within a manufacturing or heavy‑engineering environment.
• Strong understanding of machine design and product development.
• Ability to manage projects independently while collaborating in multidisciplinary teams.
• Self‑motivated, proactive and results‑driven with excellent problem‑solving skills.
• Willingness to travel to operational sites, including underground environments.
• South African citizenship.
