Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join an innovative team in Germiston. You will be responsible for designing and developing cutting‑edge mechanical systems, from concept through to production, across industrial components, mining equipment and HVAC solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design mechanical components and systems using 3D modelling and Finite Element Analysis.
• Develop detailed drawings and specifications for fabrication, container modification and heavy‑industry applications.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and welding teams to ensure designs meet cost, quality and welding standards.
• Manage projects, track budgets and timelines, and deliver designs ready for production.
• Perform design reviews and incorporate feedback to optimise performance and safety.

Required profile

• Grade 12 with Mathematics and Technical Drawing (EGD) or equivalent.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 2–5 years of experience in design and manufacturing environments.
• Proven track record of delivering mechanical projects within budget.
• Ability to manage projects and work effectively in a team.

Required skills

• SolidWorks proficiency.
• 3D modelling and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing costs.
• Knowledge of welding processes, welding procedures, NDT and relevant welding specifications.
