Mechanical Artisan – Hospital Engineering

About the role

An opportunity exists for a Mechanical Artisan at Life Rosepark Hospital, reporting to the Engineering Manager. The successful incumbent will be responsible for ensuring continuous availability of mechanical services, air‑conditioning and building maintenance required for the hospital infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Perform general mechanical repairs and installations to ensure operation and reliability of hospital equipment.
• Carry out preventative maintenance on medium and high‑risk equipment such as medical gases, vacuum pumps, medical air compressors, autoclaves and generators.
• Respond to mechanical and hospital breakdowns and take remedial action.
• Ensure contractors adhere to health and safety rules within the plant.
• Maintain the hospital engineering management system and CMMS work orders.
• Document and communicate maintenance actions, irregularities and ongoing needs.
• Manage equipment parts and supplies inventories, ordering spares in a timely manner.
• Conduct risk assessments before maintenance work and ensure HVAC systems operate optimally.
• Read and interpret technical diagrams and follow SANS, R158 and NBR standards for inspections, installations and repairs.

Required profile

• Grade 12 with at least an N5 qualification in Mechanical Engineering and a trade test certificate in fitting and turning.
• Minimum five years of experience in engineering maintenance; hospital or similar environment preferred.
• Computer literacy and experience with a CMMS, preferably SAP PM.
• Excellent communication, problem‑solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
• Willingness to perform standby duties and after‑hours call‑outs.
• Valid driver’s licence and own vehicle for standby duties.
• Familiarity with the Occupational Health & Safety Act 85 of 1993 and adherence to ISO 9001 standards.
