Mathematical Literacy Subject Specialist

About the role

The Mathematical Literacy Subject Specialist will drive Huddle’s strategic vision for Maths Literacy by creating high‑quality resources, assessments and targeted interventions for FET learners (Grades 10‑12). The role focuses on rebuilding confidence and closing gaps for students who have disengaged from mathematics.

Key responsibilities

• Support baseline assessment implementation and analyse data to identify numeracy gaps.
• Develop bridging content and intervention strategies that rebuild learner confidence.
• Design and script curriculum‑aligned video lessons that connect abstract concepts to real‑world scenarios.
• Create rigorous formal and informal assessments that test applied reasoning.
• Analyse learner performance, adapt content, and run remediation programmes or numeracy bootcamps.
• Collaborate with teachers, observe classrooms, and gather feedback to ensure content relevance.
• Facilitate teacher professional development on Mathematical Literacy instruction and use of Huddle resources.
• Review colleague materials, maintain project documentation, and help build tools and processes to scale impact.

Required profile

• BEd or PGCE with a specialisation in Senior/FET Phase Mathematical Literacy.
• At least 3 years of teaching experience in Mathematical Literacy or related subjects.
• Strong subject knowledge combined with empathy for learners who have gaps in confidence and context.
• Ability to translate data insights into actionable instructional content.
