Manager – Medical Services (Grade 1)

About the role

The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is seeking a senior medical professional to lead and manage health services at Khayelitsha Hospital. The role combines strategic leadership with hands‑on clinical oversight and requires collaboration with primary health‑care facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership for health services at Khayelitsha Hospital and ensure alignment with PHC facilities in the Khayelitsha sub‑structure.
• Manage and govern clinical, clinical support and allied health services, including forensic services.
• Oversee finances, supply‑chain, human resources and non‑clinical support services to ensure efficiency and sustainability.
• Address service pressures linked to social determinants of health and support training, development and research initiatives.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including consultants, PHC facilities, NGOs and community‑oriented primary care programs.

Required profile

• Medical Practitioner qualification that permits registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
• Current HPCSA registration as a Medical Practitioner.
• Minimum of three years’ experience as a Medical Officer after registration.
• Valid Code B/EB/C1 driver’s licence and willingness to travel and perform after‑hours clinical work.
