About the role
The Manager (Heavy Plant & Vehicle Workshop) leads the fleet maintenance function within the Office of Operations Management, overseeing workshop operations, contracts and budget for the City of eThekwini.
Key responsibilities
- Define, implement and monitor short‑term plans and objectives for fleet maintenance in line with the Technical Operations approach.
- Manage key performance indicators and outcomes of personnel within the workshop.
- Control operating expenditure against approved budget allocations.
- Oversee a range of contracts covering mechanical, electrical and parts services for the city’s vehicles.
- Implement procedures, systems and controls to regulate work sequences and requirements.
- Direct and control key deliverables of the automotive mechanical and electrical workshop.
- Disseminate functional information on current activities, proposed actions, problems and constraints.
- Manage procedural, administrative and operating deadlines associated with the workshop function.
Required profile
- Diploma (NQF Level 6) or equivalent in Transportation, Fleet Management, Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Valid motor vehicle driving licence.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
- Computer literacy.
- Preferred: Degree (NQF Level 7) or equivalent in Transportation, Fleet Management or a related discipline.
- Preferred: Minimum 6 years of relevant experience.
