Manager: External Communications

About the role

The External Communications Manager will lead the development and execution of Old Mutual’s external communications strategy, ensuring the company’s value‑creation story reaches key audiences and strengthens its reputation across the financial services sector.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement the annual Group External Communications plan to generate consistent earned‑media visibility.
• Shape proactive media positioning that highlights financial performance, growth strategy and market leadership.
• Identify and activate advocacy partners to amplify the Value Creation story.
• Monitor media coverage, industry trends and public sentiment to guide reputation management.
• Create high‑impact thought‑leadership content such as opinion pieces, press releases, webinars and LinkedIn profiles.
• Secure speaking opportunities and manage briefing documents for media interviews and industry events.
• Provide media training and coaching for senior spokespeople.
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure integrated execution across owned channels and employee advocacy.

Required profile

• Proven experience in external communications, media relations and reputation management within a corporate environment.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic communication plans.
• Strong understanding of financial services or insurance sectors is preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work with senior executives and manage cross‑functional stakeholder relationships.
