Malt Operator - Shift Production

About the role

Abinbev is hiring a Malt Operator for its malting facility in Vops Caledon. The role covers the pre-steeping, steeping, germination, kilning and effluent areas, plus quality control checks and analyses, while coaching other team members and supporting the maintenance department with asset care.

Key responsibilities

• Operate the malting process equipment according to standard operating procedures and monitor shift production, quality and productivity
• Carry out quality checks and analyses as set out in work instructions and SOPs, and record results
• Perform autonomous cleaning, lubrication and inspection of equipment, and report defects to the Team Leader
• Help the Standby Artisan with running repairs on shift
• Record waste and downtime, review waste trends and identify sources of waste
• Use 5Y's and quick-fix routines to solve problems and report them to the Team Leader
• Take part in shift meetings, complete handovers and contribute to team goal reviews

Required profile

• Matric or equivalent (NQF Level 4)
• Diploma in Food Technology, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Production or Operations Management, or a related field
• At least 3 months on-the-job training
• 2 to 5 years of experience in a malting environment
• Previous experience in a process-controlled manufacturing environment, ideally food FMCG production
• Logical, analytical problem solver, team player with initiative and achievement drive
