Maintenance Assistant – Hotel & Resort Facilities

About the role

The Maintenance Assistant supports the hotel’s maintenance team to ensure all facilities, equipment and infrastructure are kept to the highest standards. The role involves routine inspections, preventative maintenance and timely repairs to provide a safe and welcoming environment for guests and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with preventative maintenance programmes for guest rooms, public areas and staff facilities.
• Carry out general repairs including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting and masonry work.
• Perform routine inspections and promptly report any maintenance issues.
• Respond to maintenance requests from all departments in a professional and timely manner.
• Support the upkeep of HVAC systems, lighting, water systems, generators, pumps, boilers and water‑treatment equipment.
• Maintain swimming pools, gardens, pathways and other outdoor facilities as required.
• Assist with the setup and maintenance of conference rooms and event spaces.
• Keep tools, equipment and workshops clean, organised and secure, and monitor stock levels of supplies.
• Assist contractors during scheduled servicing and follow health, safety, environmental and fire regulations.
• Complete maintenance records, job cards and inspection reports accurately and be available for after‑hours call‑outs.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent.
• Trade certificate or vocational qualification in Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry, Mechanical or Building Maintenance (advantageous).
• 2‑3 years of maintenance experience in a hotel, lodge or resort environment.
• Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) training and a valid South African driver’s licence are advantageous.
