Machine Shop Manager

About the role

The Group is looking for a Machine Shop Manager to oversee and manage daily production, keeping CNC and conventional machines running efficiently to meet quality, productivity and safety standards. The role reports to the Senior Engineering Manager and Divisional Directors and is a permanent position.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily operations and workflow, plan and schedule jobs and coordinate the team to meet production targets
• Ensure work meets quality standards, drawing tolerances and timelines; prioritize urgent and breakdown jobs with internal customers
• Develop and maintain SOPs for machine shop processes and use the CMMS to plan, track and record tasks and raise work requests
• Monitor productivity, manpower utilization and work quality, and coach the team on tooling and job planning
• Program and support CNC machining with Mastercam, and program and set up Siemens-controlled CNC machines
• Liaise with suppliers, contractors and internal stakeholders, and ensure preventive maintenance, calibration and compliance with policies, legal requirements and health and safety regulations
• Manage attendance, timekeeping, leave and overtime, and handle tooling selection, inventory and tool life monitoring
• Optimize feeds, speeds and setups, and ensure correct coolant management, lubrication and housekeeping

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years' management experience and 10 years post-trade-test experience in manufacturing or production
• Relevant tertiary qualification and trade test certificate
• Working knowledge of OHSA, valid driver's licence and own reliable transport
• Excellent MS Office skills, attention to detail, ability to work under pressure and clear leadership

Required skills

• Competent programming with Mastercam (milling and lathes) and G-Codes
• Expertise on material characteristics
• CNC programming, maintenance management, milling, toolmaking and turning
