Linux System Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Linux System Engineer with 2–5 years of experience to support, implement, and maintain industrial systems in the Oil & Gas / Fuel storage and distribution sector in South Africa. The role involves ensuring system reliability, performance, and security across a range of automation and data‑analytics solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot Red Hat Linux servers.
• Manage Oracle and SQL Server databases, including SQL scripting and stored‑procedure development.
• Perform software testing, validation, and support system commissioning activities.
• Participate in system rollouts, upgrades, and migrations from legacy platforms.
• Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) and deliver end‑user training.
• Work with Terminal Automation Systems (TAS) and Terminal Management Systems (TMS).
• Interface with field devices and controllers such as Accuload III, Accuload IV, and Multiload batch controllers.
• Support truck and rail loading/off‑loading skids and related automation equipment.
• Develop and analyse operational data for reporting and analytics, including SAP Crystal Reports and Jasper.
• Ensure system integration using Modbus TCP, Modbus Serial, and RESTful APIs.

Required profile

• 2–5 years of experience as a System Engineer or in a similar role.
• Strong knowledge of Red Hat Linux operating system.
• Hands‑on experience with Oracle and SQL Server databases.
• Proficiency in SQL scripting and stored‑procedure development.
• Experience in software testing, validation, and system commissioning.
• Understanding of industrial communication protocols and Oil & Gas storage/distribution processes (highly preferred).
