Legal Advisor – Renewable Energy Projects

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Legal Advisor to support a dynamic renewable energy business in Cape Town. The role involves providing commercially focused legal guidance across the full lifecycle of large‑scale renewable energy projects.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements such as MOUs, shareholder agreements, EPC contracts, O&M agreements, land agreements, acquisition and sale agreements.
• Provide legal support during development, investment, construction and operational phases of renewable energy projects.
• Prepare legal documentation for tender submissions and awarded projects.
• Advise multidisciplinary project teams on legal, contractual and regulatory matters.
• Monitor legislative developments and deliver practical guidance.
• Coordinate external legal counsel in line with company policies.
• Assist with litigation matters as required.
• Prepare legal memoranda for internal approvals and support corporate governance activities.
• Develop legal guidelines, deliver training and contribute to standardisation of documentation.

Required profile

• LLB or BCom Law qualification.
• 5–6 years of relevant legal experience.
• Proven experience in project development, implementation and M&A transactions.
• Exposure to project finance and renewable energy projects in the South African IPP sector is advantageous.
• Excellent drafting, negotiation and analytical abilities.
• Strong commercial awareness and ability to work independently.
• Ability to build relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
