Lecturer, Taxation and Accounting

About the role

Lyceum College, a private higher education institution offering CHE-accredited distance learning qualifications, is recruiting a Lecturer, Taxation and Accounting. The post is central to delivering high-quality tax and accounting education to distance students at NQF Levels 5 to 7, bringing current South African tax legislation, IFRS principles and accounting practice into the virtual lecture hall. The lecturer also has real influence over how the curriculum evolves.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver engaging, up-to-date course material and assessments reflecting South African tax legislation, IFRS and accounting practice.
• Provide direct academic support through consultations and mentorship, including a minimum of five hours per week at the Writing Centre, identifying and supporting at-risk students.
• Design assessments aligned to programme learning outcomes and give constructive, actionable feedback.
• Keep course content current as tax legislation, accounting standards and accreditation requirements change.
• Contribute to faculty governance and curriculum review, with input into how the programme develops.

Required profile

• Master's degree in Accounting, Taxation or a closely related field, with a proven record as a subject matter expert; a PhD is advantageous.
• Professional registration with SAICA, SAIPA or SAIT is advantageous.
• A minimum of three years' lecturing experience in Accounting and/or Taxation in higher education, including teaching at NQF Levels 5, 6 and 7.
• Experience in a distance learning environment.
• Experience in assessment setting and moderation.
