Lecturer – Creative Writing (Permanent)

About the role

The University of the Free State’s Department of African Languages is seeking a dedicated Lecturer in Creative Writing to join its Bloemfontein campus. This permanent position involves teaching and developing both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, contributing to the department’s academic excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Creative Writing within African Languages.
• Design and develop study materials and curricula for Creative Writing programmes.
• Participate in curriculum development and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Engage in community service and scholarly activities that align with the department’s mission.
• Collaborate with departmental and faculty colleagues and undertake leadership duties as required.

Required profile

• PhD (NQF Level 10) in African Languages with a specialization in Creative Writing, or a Master’s (NQF Level 9) with a commitment to obtain a PhD within five years.
• Proven record of presenting research at conferences and producing manuscripts suitable for journal publication.
• Strong academic record and relevant teaching experience.
• Experience mentoring students in the creation of literary work.
