Lead Professional – Civil Engineer

About the role

WSP is seeking a Lead Professional Civil Engineer to head water engineering delivery on multidisciplinary projects across South Africa and beyond. The role combines technical leadership, client management and mentorship within a diverse consulting environment.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver water engineering scopes, ensuring quality, cost and schedule targets are met.
• Design hydraulic systems, water treatment components, pipelines and pump stations.
• Develop stormwater solutions including runoff, culverts and networks.
• Prepare BOQ quantifications and pricing for tender submissions.
• Manage contracts and project execution in line with WSP Global and international standards.
• Ensure compliance with local and international regulations and WSP quality systems.
• Collaborate across business units to provide water services to various sectors.
• Drive innovation in treatment processes, sustainability, energy efficiency and resource recovery.
• Participate in design of biological treatment, membrane systems, advanced oxidation, sludge and brine handling.
• Mentor and coach junior engineers, supporting their professional registration.
• Model and promote health, safety, environmental and quality (SHEQ) standards.

Required profile

• M.Eng in Civil or Chemical Engineering (Honours in Water Utilisation advantageous).
• Professional Engineer registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
• Minimum 10 years of water engineering experience, including consulting work.
• Proven ability to manage high‑value client accounts and develop long‑term partnerships.
