About the role
The Land Rights Specialist is responsible for identifying, securing, and managing land rights and permits required for renewable energy projects. Reporting to the Head of Project Development, this role ensures a standardized process for land acquisition and maintains strong relationships with landowners throughout development, construction, and operation phases.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct desktop and field assessments to identify suitable land parcels and research landowners using databases and general research methods.
- Negotiate property agreements, land lease agreements, servitudes, and amendments with landowners to secure appropriate rights for project development.
- Advise on and implement solutions for land‑related permits such as subdivision, spatial planning, rezoning, and conveyancing.
- Secure long‑term access and usage rights and obtain all third‑party consents needed to build and operate projects.
- Implement systems to monitor active land contracts, including payments and extensions.
- Maintain positive relationships with stakeholders including landowners, tribal authorities, competing mineral rights holders, regulatory bodies, and community groups.
- Organize and lead public hearings, community engagement sessions, and represent the company in land‑use hearings and regulatory meetings.
- Manage and mentor any direct reports, oversee performance, and support succession planning.
Required profile
- Experience in land acquisition, negotiations, and stakeholder management for renewable energy or infrastructure projects.
- Ability to work closely with internal project development teams, legal counsel, and external government departments.
- Strong understanding of land‑related regulatory frameworks and permitting processes.
- Proven capability to lead public outreach and represent the organization in regulatory forums.
