Junior Field Technician – Fibre & Wireless Installations

About the role

Join our Networks team as a Junior Field Technician in Louis Trichardt. You will perform standard fibre and wireless installations, repairs and call‑outs for homes and small businesses while delivering excellent customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Follow SOPs and health & safety procedures, maintaining accurate documentation.
• Prepare daily jobs by confirming stock, checking equipment and coordinating with the Team Leader and Scheduler.
• Perform fibre installations, splicing, testing and dome management, as well as wireless installations, signal testing and bandwidth validation.
• Troubleshoot basic network issues such as IP conflicts, firewall and routing problems.
• Install and configure VoIP systems, set up client equipment and upgrade firmware.
• Capture photographic evidence for quality control and complete accurate job cards for invoicing.
• Handle on‑site call‑outs efficiently, communicate cost implications and confirm client satisfaction before leaving.
• Work overtime, weekends and emergency call‑outs when required, operating safely at heights and in confined spaces.

Required profile

• Grade 12 qualification.
• Minimum 1 year of fibre‑optic splicing experience.
• Minimum 1 year of RF/wireless experience.
• Basic networking knowledge and computer literacy.
• Valid driver’s licence with a clean record.
• Physically fit, able to work at heights and lift equipment.

Required skills

• Fibre‑optic splicing and cable termination.
• RF/Wireless troubleshooting and signal testing.
• Use of OTDR and fusion splicing equipment.
• Basic network troubleshooting (IP conflicts, firewall, routing).
• VoIP system installation and configuration.
• Firmware upgrades and equipment configuration.
