Junior Accountant / Accounting Trainee

About the role

This position offers a junior‑level accounting role within a growing financial solutions firm in Johannesburg. It is designed for candidates either fresh from a diploma or with up to three years of commercial accounting experience, providing a clear pathway to a permanent corporate finance career.

Key responsibilities

• Capture and process daily financial data, including supplier invoices and general ledger entries.
• Perform weekly and monthly bank, debtor and creditor reconciliations using Sage Online Accounting.
• Run monthly payroll through Sage Payroll and submit EMP021/501 filings via the SARS eFiling portal.
• Calculate VAT, prepare VAT201 submissions and handle company income tax and provisional tax filings.
• Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts and annual financial statements for audit readiness.
• Respond to basic client queries and follow up on outstanding receivables.

Required profile

• 0‑12 months of practical accounting exposure (trainee stream) or 2‑3 years of verifiable experience in a commercial accounting environment (experienced stream).
• National Diploma or BCom Degree in Accounting/Finance for the trainee stream.
• Demonstrated ability to manage independent balance‑sheet processing, bank reconciliations and basic tax submissions for the experienced stream.
• Strong attention to detail, high level of organisation and ability to work within a disciplined office routine.
