Audit Committee Member

About the role

The City of Ekurhuleni is seeking external members for its Audit Committee and related governance committees. Members will provide independent oversight on financial reporting, risk management, compliance, and strategic governance. The role involves participating in regular committee meetings, reviewing audit reports, and contributing to the development of policies that strengthen municipal accountability.

Required profile

• A NQF Level 8 qualification (Honours degree, postgraduate diploma or equivalent) and professional registration such as CA(SA), ACCA, CIA, CISA, CRM Practitioner, RGA or admission as an attorney.
• At least 10 years of senior‑level or executive‑level experience in financial management, accounting, auditing, law, risk management, ICT, investment management, infrastructure development, or related specialist fields.
• Minimum of 5 years serving on a board, audit committee, risk committee, governance committee or a comparable oversight structure.
• Professional registration or certification with a recognised body relevant to the candidate’s expertise (e.g., accounting, finance, law, engineering, ICT, actuarial science) – considered an advantage.
• Additional credentials such as IoDSA Certified Director or Chartered Director status, or a relevant master’s degree, are advantageous.
• Willingness to undergo vetting, probity checks and obtain any required security clearance.
