Internal Audit Manager

About the role

The Municipality is seeking a qualified Manager – Internal Audit to lead the internal audit function, develop a risk‑based audit plan and provide assurance to the Accounting Officer and senior management.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a risk‑based internal audit plan aligned with municipal objectives.
• Provide administrative support to the Audit Committee and Risk Committee.
• Oversee junior staff to ensure compliance with IIA methodology and standards.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management and governance processes.
• Deliver assurance services to the Accounting Officer and senior management.
• Participate in audit planning, including assessing the optimal distribution of audit activities.
• Create and maintain audit files and project schedules for each engagement.
• Interpret relevant legislation and audit standards, and compile internal audit reports for Committee meetings.

Required profile

• Degree/Diploma in Internal Auditing or B.Com with completed articles specialising in Internal Auditing, or IAT qualification.
• Code B driver’s licence.
• Proficiency in at least two official languages of the Free State (read, write & speak).
• Strong supervision, management, human relations and communication abilities.
• High attention to detail, ability to work under pressure and a strong sense of responsibility.

Required skills

• IAT qualification (Internal Auditing Technical qualification).
• Knowledge of Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) standards and methodology.
