Intermediate Java Software Engineer

About the role

Our client, a global fintech leader trusted by 120 banks, is expanding its Cape Town team. As an Intermediate Java Software Engineer you will work on a large, long‑established backend product, building clean, durable APIs and supporting high‑stakes production environments.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Java 21 applications using Spring Framework and Spring Boot.
• Design and implement contract‑first REST APIs (OpenAPI/Swagger) together with senior engineers.
• Build event‑driven integrations using transactional outbox, Kafka and Apache Camel.
• Integrate APIs with existing systems, message‑based services and third‑party platforms.
• Write comprehensive unit and integration tests with JUnit 5, Mockito, WireMock and Testcontainers, following TDD practices.
• Collaborate with product managers, UX designers and stakeholders in Agile/Scrum ceremonies.

Required profile

• 3+ years of hands‑on Java development experience.
• Strong understanding of OOP, multithreading, exception handling and modern Java language features.
• Proficiency with Spring MVC, Spring Security and dependency injection.
• Experience with relational databases (SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL) and SQL/JDBC.
• Familiarity with ORM concepts and willingness to work with in‑house ORM solutions.
• Solid testing background using JUnit 5, Mockito and related tools.
