Instrumentation Mechanician – Artisan

About the role

The Artisan Instrumentation Mechanician will support the operational reliability of Boshoek Smelter by installing, maintaining and troubleshooting instrumentation and control systems. You will work closely with production, electrical and mechanical teams to ensure plant availability and safety.

Key responsibilities

• Attend breakdowns and perform standby duties for instrumentation equipment.
• Install and commission instrumentation and control systems to meet plant operational needs.
• Carry out planned and corrective maintenance on all C&I equipment and systems.
• Provide instrumentation support to production, electrical and mechanical stakeholders.
• Minimise breakdowns and assist with root‑cause failure analysis (RCFA).
• Support the IT function as required and maintain housekeeping, environmental and safety standards.
• Perform all work in accordance with procedural and company requirements.

Required profile

• Grade 12 Technical / N3 or related NQF level 4 qualification.
• Instrumentation trade test certificate.
• Minimum 3 years of field instrumentation experience.
• Minimum 3 years of PLC programming experience, preferably Siemens PCS7.
• Experience in a sinter furnace or similar high‑temperature environment is an advantage.

• WinCC SCADA.
• Industrial networking (Ethernet, Profibus, Profinet).
• Instrumentation installation and maintenance.
• Computer literacy – MS Office and SAP PM.
