Infrastructure Technician – Junior

About the role

The Junior Infrastructure Technician will support the maintenance and expansion of wireless and fibre network infrastructure in the East London region, working under the supervision of senior team members.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in constructing, installing and maintaining communications towers, fibre networks and related support structures.
• Respond to network outages, including high‑site tower failures and fibre breaks, often climbing structures 50 m+ with a 20 kg load.
• Install, weather‑proof and maintain cable, connector, power equipment and data routers.
• Perform tower climbing, antenna replacement, and general tower maintenance safely.

Required profile

• 1–2 years of industry experience with a valid driver’s licence (off‑road experience advantageous).
• Up‑to‑date medical certificate and completed Working at Heights and Tower Rescue training.
• Physically fit to climb towers, lift equipment, and work in varied weather conditions; weight and waist limits must meet safety equipment specifications.
• Basic education: Grade 12 (Maths and science advantageous).

Required skills

• Wireless and fibre network installation and configuration.
• Use of hand tools, mechanical equipment and basic computer applications.
• Understanding of basic electricity (AC/DC), solar energy, power and battery systems.
• Knowledge of network hardware, routing and RF protocols, cable and trunking techniques.
