Infrastructure Monitoring Specialist

About the role

The Infrastructure Monitoring Specialist ensures continuous monitoring, management, and optimisation of IT infrastructure in a dynamic, outsourced environment. This role safeguards the stability, performance and availability of client systems by proactively identifying and resolving issues before they affect business operations. The specialist also leads a team of monitoring professionals, fostering development and high‑quality service delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor servers, networks, applications and databases using industry‑standard tools, respond to alerts and resolve issues to meet SLA commitments.
• Triage and troubleshoot infrastructure incidents, produce detailed incident reports and conduct root‑cause analysis.
• Analyse monitoring data to spot trends, bottlenecks and improvement opportunities, collaborating with engineering teams on design enhancements.
• Evaluate, integrate and maintain new monitoring tools and technologies to expand coverage and efficiency.
• Supervise and develop a team of monitoring professionals, conducting performance reviews and creating development plans.

Required profile

• Minimum NQF 6 (3‑year degree/diploma) in Computer Science or IT, or NQF 4 (Grade 12) with 7 years of relevant experience.
• At least 5 years of experience in monitoring and surveillance technology, including 2 years in a management capacity.
• Relevant certifications such as ITIL Foundation and professional memberships in the monitoring industry.

Required skills

• Experience with monitoring tools such as Zabbix, SolarWinds, Entuity, SCOM and eGmonitoring.
• Strong knowledge of servers, networks, applications and databases.
• ITIL Foundation certification.
• Data analysis and incident management capabilities.
