Infection Prevention Specialist

About the role

The Infection Prevention Specialist will be based at Life Flora Hospital and report to the Nurse Manager, Claudia Gunuza. The role focuses on identifying, managing, mitigating and evaluating infection‑prevention risks for patients, staff and the wider community.

Key responsibilities

• Execute and communicate the hospital infection‑prevention strategy aligned with organisational and national targets.
• Lead the Infection Prevention Committee, overseeing reporting, investigations, root‑cause analysis and trending of all infection‑related incidents.
• Set infection‑prevention targets with the nursing team and ensure compliance through internal audits of laundry, sterilisation, catering, waste and other high‑risk areas.
• Manage the close‑out of findings from Department of Health inspections and internal/external QMS reviews, reporting outcomes to MANCO and Quality Review meetings.
• Conduct surveillance, monitor high‑risk patients and environments, and implement remedial actions with subject‑matter experts.
• Identify and mitigate occupational exposure to hazardous biological agents, including overseeing the Hepatitis B programme for healthcare workers.

Required profile

• Relevant nursing or allied health qualification.
• Experience in infection‑prevention or infection‑control within a hospital setting.
• Strong analytical skills for risk assessment, audit management and incident investigation.
• Ability to communicate risks, trends and actions to senior management and multidisciplinary committees.
