Industrial Engineering Graduate Programme – Warehousing & Distribution (Durban)

About the role

Maersk's Contract Logistics Industrial Engineer graduate programme in Durban is a 12-month programme designed to build an internal talent pipeline for Warehousing and Distribution. It combines formal learning with structured workplace rotations across cross-dock, ambient warehousing and cold chain facilities, aligned with the company's Centres of Excellence in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse and improve inbound, storage, picking, packing, dispatch, cross-dock and inventory processes
• Collect, validate and analyse operational data to find constraints, waste and improvement opportunities
• Run time studies, work measurement, process mapping, capacity analysis, root-cause analysis and productivity assessments
• Support inventory accuracy through cycle counts, reconciliation and stock-integrity reviews
• Work with TCO on KPIs, data quality, WMS reporting, dashboards and process standardisation
• Support solution design, including layout, material flow, capacity calculations and design documentation
• Support implementation through project planning, RAID management, SOPs, training materials and hypercare
• Take part in Lean, 5S, Kaizen and continuous improvement, and prepare technical reports and recommendations
• Complete a capstone project with a validated benefit or feasibility case and a handover plan

Required profile

• Industrial Engineering degree (or final year of study)
• Strong academic record
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and process-thinking abilities
• Passion for logistics, supply chain and operational excellence
• Adaptability to diverse, fast-paced environments
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• South African citizenship

Required skills

• Intermediate proficiency in MS Outlook, MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel
• Good personal time management
